Last week in Warsaw, the ADN Business Services Academy 2023 took place, where the concept of Global Process Ownership (GPO) was a focal point. Robert Godziszewski, an Executive Business Director at ADAPTIVE Solutions & Advisory Group, shared his perspective on GPO, drawing from his extensive experience as a strategic consultant working with Global Business Services (GBS).
Here are some key findings from the event:
👉 The GPO: A Catalyst for Change: The role of a GPO extends beyond being a subject matter expert. They serve as connectors, innovators, and drivers of change within the organization.
👉 Building Strong Stakeholder Relationships: One of the primary responsibilities of a GPO is to build and nurture strong relationships with stakeholders. While technical knowledge is valuable, soft skills such as collaboration, negotiation, and influencing others are crucial for success.
👉 Essential Skills for GPOs: The specific skills required for a GPO may vary depending on the stage of transformation. However, effective communication and interpersonal abilities are always emphasized.
👉 Engagement with Different Teams: Successful GPOs engage effectively with various teams, including project, delivery, and change teams. Collaboration and cooperation across these teams are vital for driving successful process management.
👉 Accountability and Adaptability: GPOs are not only responsible for initiating change but also for ensuring its successful implementation. They actively gather feedback and adapt processes based on the received information.
👉 Optimal Placement within the Organization: The GPO role is ideally situated within the structure of the Delivery Operational team while maintaining close ties with the Business side.
👉 Growing Interest in GPOs: According to the GBS Report’23 by Adaptive, 40% of companies do not currently have a GPO role within their organization. However, nearly 60% are considering establishing this role, indicating a growing interest in leveraging GPOs for enhanced process management.
The ADN Business Services Academy 2023 provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and addressing critical issues in GBS. The insights shared by Robert Godziszewski and other contributors, including Edyta Wojtkiewicz, Barbara Palys, Rafał Górski, and the host, Krzysztof Herdzik, contributed to a productive and engaging discussion.
